Radiate FAQ

How long is the Radiate e-course?

Radiate is an 8 week online class that begins June 13th, 2012.  There will be a ‘break’ during the week of July 6th during which no new lessons will be presented due to the Independence Day holiday in the US.

What will I learn in Radiate?

This class will teach you a workflow for photo editing and give you new tools and techniques to try while utilizing free software readily available to anyone with a computer and an internet connection. We will bring a context to editing techniques through weekly assignments that encourage you to reflect introspectively and to capture what matters most to you and your life.

How tech-savvy do I need to be? I’ve never taken an online class before and I’m not quite sure how this whole online format will work.

If you are confident and comfortable with navigating the internet, uploading photos, and saving them to your computer, then you are tech-savvy enough for the Radiate e-course.

The Radiate class portal is a custom built and password protected website where assignments will be delivered each week in manageable segments. Each week will begin with a downloadable PDF photography assignment, allowing you to bein to reflect and plan out the photos you’d like to take.

There will also be a scheduled webinar each week to deliver you step-by-step guidance and instruction in the editing skills focus for the week and Q & A time with Beryl. These webinars will be presented live at a consistent time each week; however if the time does not fit well into your schedule or you need to be somewhere else during that time on a particular week that is not a problem! Every webinar will be recorded and available for viewing on our class site so you can watch at a time that is most convenient for you.

As you finish each assignment there will also be the opportunity to upload your favorite images to the Radiate community galleries in order to share them with other classmates and receive praise and feedback for your hard work.

What kind of camera do I need to have to take the Radiate e-course?

The beauty of this class is that it’s for the user of any type of camera. Radiate is NOT a technical photography course.  This class is about using what you know about photography already to practice and improve, it’s about reconnecting with who you are as a person, and it’s about learning new photo editing techniques in the process.

I have a family, commitments, summer vacation, etc. Will I have time for this e-course?

Radiate is designed to fit into your lifestyle and timeline, vacations and all. The PDFs are printable documents and most assignments would easily be able to be completed on a family vacation or outing. These times are also probably the times that you’d already have your camera on hand anyway!

If you must miss a live webinar due to other commitments, they will always be recorded and available online for when it’s convenient for you.

And, if your vacation happens to fall during an assignment week and you need a bit of extra time to turn in your images, that is not a problem. You can simply pick right back up where you left off and share your images with the Radiate community of students when you return.

How long does a Radiate assignment take to complete each week?

The will vary from student to student, but making room to invest 1-3 hours each week on planning, shooting, and editing your images is a good rule of thumb.

I have another editing program on my computer (Photoshop, Elements, etc…) will Radiate teach me how to use those?

Radiate will not specifically teach you how to use any of the paid software programs for your computer. If you are looking to learn more about Photoshop or Lightroom or another similar program in greater detail this probably is not the class for you. However, many of concepts presented using the free online options in this class could be transferable to other programs you may have seen or used in the past.

Do you have a refund policy?

It is my #1 top priority that I create a fun, safe, and inspired environment for you to learn, grow, and play as a photographer. I ask that you actively participate in our community, keep up with your assignment journal, and view the webinars each week to get the most of your class experience. If you still don’t jive with the class by Week 3, just contact me and let’s talk about it. If it makes sense to do so, I’m happy to issue you a full refund of your entire class fee at that time.
